D-Mannose is a glyconutrient and has many helpful health benefits. Glyconutrients are vital because they are essential saccharides that form crucial compounds within the body. Antibodies and digestive enzymes are glycoproteins (glyconutrients attached to proteins) that assist the body’s cells in communicating with each other. D-mannose also removes “bad” bacteria by attachment and voiding. It’s absorbed eight times more slowly than glucose and, when ingested, is not converted to glycogen or stored in the liver but rather goes directly into the blood stream from the kidneys to the bladder. Therefore it does not interfere with blood sugar regulation.
The bacterium displaced by Mannose is responsible for 80-90% of UTIs, whereas antibiotic treatment may cause an imbalance in the normal flora.
